Day Camp Director

Day Camp Director

This position is responsible for developing, facilitating, and overseeing the Day Camp program with the Executive Director—in accordance with Community of Christ and the American Camping Association requirements and applicable safety, health, and accreditation standards—to serve the program needs of patrons and guests. The Day Camp Director is responsible for planning and scheduling all activities as well as supervising, guiding, and rotating day camp staff. The Day Camp Director is also responsible for registrations and parent communications.

Must have a flexible schedule with the ability to work weekends and holidays as needed, and the ability to fill in for other staff roles in their absence.

 

Essential Functions:

 

  1. Provide daily leadership in the operation of Lake Doniphan’s Day Camp program to serve the youth and families of the
  2. Ensure the adherence to Lake Doniphan policies, procedures and
  3. Lead by example by maintaining a positive working relationship with all Lake Doniphan employees, by regularly working alongside staff and performing tasks when staff are not available (teaching a class, hauling trash, leading a group of campers, etc.).
  4. Inspire a team-oriented environment that fulfills the mission and success of the organization.
  5. Serve on the Summer Planning Team (SPT) – join in planning meetings and give feedback on staff roles and Day Camp needs.
  6. Develop and direct programs for Lake Doniphan Day
    1. Oversee all staff and programs related to Day
    2. Create the weekly schedule, coordinate special programs/activities, and develops program ideas.
    3. Coordinate the flow of Day Camp activities ensuring rental group programs are not interrupted.
    4. Coordinate changes in schedules as they occur during the
    5. Prepare and coordinate alternative activities in the event of inclement weather or scheduling overlap, including rainy day locations.
    6. Communicate with the Executive Director about schedule or logistical changes throughout the week.
  7. Be the primary phone contact for Day Camp registration inquiries, communications, scheduling, invoicing, and collecting payment for Day
  8. Supervise daily check-in and check-out of all day campers, ensuring the process is safe, welcoming, and easy to execute/understand.
  9. Supervise and direct all staff and volunteers assigned to work with the Day Camp program. This includes observing staff and volunteers, providing feedback, being available for staff feedback/concerns, and leading by
  10. Track and assign Day Camp staff to weekly
  11. Manage the Day Camp Budget with the Executive Director; stock and maintain all Day Camp program equipment.
  12. Maintain all Day Camp records including camper forms, master scheduling, camper assignments, staff assignments.
  13. Develop and maintain strong parent relations by answering questions, communicating camper concerns, and sharing updates in the weekly
  14. concerns, and sharing updates in the weekly parent letter.

Kitchen Lead

As the Lead Cook, you’ll oversee and supervise the kitchen staff for your shift(s), from food preparation to kitchen organization and cleanliness. You’ll work alongside and lead the team to ensure that every meal is not only tasty but also meets the dietary needs and preferences of our campers and staff.

  • Looking for a positive, energetic, team player.
  • Works throughout the entire food service operation – dishes, food prep, serving, clean-up, and other duties as assigned.
  • Reports to the Food Service Manager.
  • Must be able to take direction well and be a quick learner.
  • Capable of handling a high-stress, fast-paced environment.
  • Supervise and coordinate the kitchen team
  • Prepare all meals on time as scheduled or assigned
  • Be willing and prepared to meet special food requirements for both campers and staff; e.g. gluten free and vegetarian diets;
  • Assist in weekly deep cleaning of specific areas in the kitchen
  • Responsible for rotating stock when new orders are checked in

STARTING PAY: $16 PER HOUR

ServSafe certification training is provided.

Baker

A baker is responsible for producing high-quality baked goods such as bread, pastries, cake, and desserts. Your duties will include preparing and mixing ingredients according to recipes, baking items in oven or other baking equipment, and decorating finished products. Additionally, you will have to make other variations of these goods as we accommodate for certain dietary restrictions such as Gluten free, Dairy free, Vegan, and Soy free. You will also ensure that the proper techniques are followed for each type of baked good and maintain a clean and organized workspace.  

Key Responsibilities:  

  1. Prepare and mix ingredients according to recipes. 
  2. Operate baking equipment such as ovens, mixers, and dough sheeters.  
  3. Bake a variety of products including bread, pastries, cakes, and cookies. 
  4. Being able to accommodate certain dietary restrictions such as Gluten free, Dairy Free, Vegan, and Soy free. 
  5. Monitor baking times and temperature to ensure products are cooked properly.  
  6. Follow food and safety sanitation guidelines to maintain a clean and hygienic workspace. 
  7. Keeping in touch with kitchen manager on inventory of supplies and ingredients  

Qualifications:  

  1. Previous experience working as a baker or in a similar role preferred.  
  2. Knowledge of baking techniques, ingredients, and equipment.  
  3. ability to follow recipes accurately and consistently.  
  4. Strong attention to detail and dedication to producing high-quality products.  
  5. Excellent time management and organizational skills.  
  6. Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.  
  7. Physical stamina to stand for long periods and lift heavy bags of flour or other ingredients.  
  8. Able to maintain a clean and organized workspace.

Summer Kitchen Assistant

Summer Grounds Crew
Duties/ Responsibilities:
  • Mowing (Push/Riding) , trim weeds, and rake leaves as assigned.
  • Pick up and removes trash prior to mowing a designated area.
  • Empty trash and recycling containers.
  • Trim bushes, shrubs, and hedges.
  • Prepare soil and plant flowers, bushes, hedges, or shrubs.
  • Plant trees and prunes them when necessary.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
  • Ability to learn to operate various types of power equipment including lawnmowers, trimmers, hedge trimmers, leaf blowers, and other landscaping equipment.
  • Ability to learn to use hand tools required for landscaping.
  • Ability to follow instructions and complete assignments.

Day Camp Counselor

The Lake Doniphan Leadership Program provides participants with an opportunity to develop interpersonal, professional and life skills in a unique camp setting. Leadership Program participants will learn and work in multiple areas of camp, conference, and retreat management. The assignment will vary each day and week, depending on the needs of the camp, and the skills of the participant.

Training, certification, and responsibility will focus on three areas Activities, Administration/Hospitality and Water Safety. Specific responsibilities may include lifeguard, waterfront, sports, office and guest support, pool management, archery instruction, small watercraft instruction, leading games/activities, sanitary/safety requirements, etc. Participants may reside at the campgrounds, be provided with housing and meals when events are occurring and work 35-45 hours per week from approx. May 20 through approx. August 11.

  1. Responsible for the supervision of day campers and implementation of day camp activities.
  2. Manage personal time off in accordance with camp policy.
  3. Assist those campers who may need help fitting into the camp atmosphere.
  4. Help ensure morale of campers by monitoring rest, eating habits, and balance of activities.
  5. Supervise all assigned aspects of the campers’ day including cleanup, mealtimes, and rest hour, daytime, and evening activities, as assigned.
  6. Instruct campers in emergency procedures such as fire drills, evacuating buildings, severe weather warnings, etc.
  7. Take inventory of all recreation and craft equipment. Notify the Day Camp Director of any repairs/replacements needed.
  8. Plan, set up, clean up, and lead recreational activities. Activities may include archery, games, fishing, sports, canoeing, kayaking, paddle boating.
  9. Ensure that recreation and craft equipment is stored correctly when not in use.
  10. Provide excellent customer service as one of Doniphan’s on-site liaisons to guests and visitors.
  1. Prepare for and actively participate in all staff training, in-services, meetings, and evaluation conferences.
  2. Have a complete understanding of all Lake Doniphan forms, procedures, policies, and can answer any questions related to/and can complete forms, if needed.
  3. All staff should possess respect for others, punctuality, cleanliness, appropriate clothing, ownership in camp properties/equipment and programs, good sportsmanship, etc.
  4. Complete understanding of the Staff Handbook, and facility policies and procedures.
  5. Submit all required reports on time. (Evaluations, Incident/Accident, repair, or supplies needed)
  6. Report to Day Camp Director any guest, volunteer, or site problems that you are not able to resolve on your own as soon as possible.
  7. Provide opportunities for the group, so that each individual experience’s success during their time at Lake Doniphan.
  8. Carry out camp health, food, and safety procedures.
  9. Teach and /or lead camp activities as assigned.
  10. Other duties as assigned; these duties can and will include the cleaning of the facility at the end of each session and during the week.

STARTING PAY: $15 PER HOUR

Activity Staff

  1. Lifeguard patrons at the Lake Doniphan swimming pool and waterfront; provide rescue, first aid, and/or emergency care until EMS arrives, if needed.
  2. Demonstrate a professional and courteous attitude towards all Lake Doniphan guests and staff.
  3. Arrive for each lifeguard shift in uniform and rescue ready.
  4. Test Chlorine and PH levels of pool when not on stand, record levels on chemical tracking sheet and alert Executive Director to any unusual levels.
  5. Ensure that all patrons are following safety guidelines/rules for swimming pool, waterfront, boating, and other recreational activities.
  6. Maintain a clean pool area – deck and water should be free of debris, pool changing rooms/restrooms should be clean and stocked, all equipment in good working order.
  7. Take inventory of pool, waterfront, archery, and recreation equipment. Notify the Executive Director of any repairs/replacements needed. Inventory to include lifejackets, paddles, noodles, arrows, bows, sports equipment, etc.

Requirements:

  1. First Aid Certification, training will be provided.
  2. AED and CPR Certification, training will be provided.
  3. Lifeguarding, Waterfront, and small watercraft Certifications, training will be provided.
  4. Desire to develop excellent interpersonal, problem solving, organizing and leadership skills.
  5. An attitude of service to the customer that reflects patience, kindness, and gracious hospitality to all.
  6. A high level of self-discipline and motivation with the ability to work on and complete assignments autonomously.
  7. An attitude of flexibility and adaptation to changing situations.
  8. Ability to lift 50 lbs.

Housekeeping

Our housekeeping staff are an integral part of our team. We look for team members who are industrious, hard working, and persistent.

  • Oversees camp cleanliness. Ensures facilities are maintained and cleaned daily. Clean/Changeover rooms after guests checkout.
